not just whistling dixie

From dj BC, the creator of the famously cease-and-desisted Glassbreaks (bittorrent), comes Wu Orleans—mashups of Wu Tang Clan and dixieland jazz. Three songs are available for direct download, and the full album is being distributed through the all-but-unstoppable BitTorrent from the outset this time. It’s as cool as you’d think. 1. Actually, I'd say it's a little better than you think. I'm well and fully down with the Wu (as, at base, we all are... I'm pretty sure that, eventually, war will cease when we all realize that the Wu Tang Clan's so big that it encompasses all of humanity), but I was a bit dubious about the Dixieland thing being anything more than a bit of random jokey jackery.

I should've known better. This is, after all, DJ BC. The album made me shake my booty so hard I sprained it.

Tony diTerlizzi and classic D&D monsters

The sixth entry of his series on drawings of classic D&D monsters is up. He's one of my favorite fantasy artists. His work tends toward the charming and cozy, rather than others' focus on machismo or melodrama.

sad fate

“Our legendary personalities are evergreen ‘brands’ with the benefit of worldwide recognition,” reads a message on the Richman agency’s website. Guardian UK Article *vomits* Where is the line drawn between “public figure” and “celebrity”? How can a dead person have an agent, particulary where there are no specific works concerned other than a sense of character? It’s one thing to insist that Duck Soup is a work that should be protected (which any more simply means controlled by whomever has the most buX0rs), but shouldn’t personalities and such pass into the public domain as well?
